Picture/Audio Quality

As mentioned above, the Motorola MBP36 Digital Video Baby Monitor utilizes 2.4GHz FHSS technology (frequency hopping) and data encryption technology. This  means that it’s highly resistant to narrow band interference from other wireless products that you may have in and around your home.  As a result you’re less likely to suffer from static interference  so you get great audio as well as picture quality.  More than one user has said how clear the picture is and is not grainy at all like some other monitors.

The plus points about frequency hopping technology is that because the signal is difficult to intercept, you don’t have to worry about anyone else picking up pictures of your baby or overhearing conversations. This offers great peace of mind to any parent.

Having good night vision is an important feature for many of  you when it comes to choosing a baby monitor. The Motorola Digital Video Baby Monitor camera has 8 high intensity infrared LED’s that allows the camera to view clear black and white images of your baby as the room gets dark. This means that you can not only see your baby during the day, but at night also.

I really feel that you can’t go wrong choosing this video baby monitor as far as picture and audio quality is concerned and it’s not only me that thinks so.  The majority of users also agree that the picture and audio quality is excellent.

Ease of use/portability

Being easy to use and as well as portable is a requirement for many of you when choosing a video baby monitor. The monitor comes with full instructions and even if you aren’t particularly tech savvy it’s very easy to set up.  One reviewer said that they had set it up in 5 minutes. The menu is very easy to use and mastering the monitor functions such as pan, zoom and tilt is a breeze.

For example, there are directional arrows on the left hand side for panning and choosing the menu items. The easy to use pan controls can almost rotate the picture 360 degrees in every direction so you can get great views of your child and nursery. The menu/scan/camera on.off, talk to buttons are on the right.

The camera can be placed on a level surface well out of reach of your baby or you can install it on the wall using just one screw which holds it in place. It may be better to wall mount the camera as you can get a better viewing angle and also it’s well out of the way of your baby’s crib.

The parent unit is pretty portable too, not only can you carry it around in your hand, but  it comes with a kick stand so you can stand it on a table top.  The kickstand has a non-adjustable angle of 45 degrees which, as one user pointed out, makes the monitor difficult to see when you’re lying in bed and it’s on the night stand. The only thing it doesn’t have to make it truly portable is a belt clip so you can attach it to your belt or waistband.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

Customers absolutely rave about the Motorola MBP36 video baby monitor and quite rightly so. It has so many features that you wonder whether the hype is right, but it seems that this video monitor does everything it says it does. Firstly it has hop technology which offers an interference free signal and long signal range. There were hardly any negative comments about interference, with customers commenting on the crystal clear video quality, static free audio and the fantastic signal range.

Customers were more than satisfied with the easy to use functions, the two-way intercom, the quiet camera with its zoom pan and tilt function, great sounding lullabies, and accurate temperature monitor.

This Motorola MBP36 video baby monitor comes highly recommended and if you are going to invest in one that will last you for many years to come then this one is worth the investment.

Cons:

Even though the majority of customers are happy with the Motorola MBP36 video baby monitor, some are less than satisfied given the high cost of this monitor. For example, people have complained of poor battery life, signal range and night vision. Also users have pointed out that even though the monitor has the ability to connect to the TV, no A/V cable is included and there’s no indication what is a suitable A/V cable.  Motorola/Binatone have not been too helpful in this regard it seems.

Given the number of reviews, the percentage of people who are dissatisfied with the Motorola MBP36 is small. It’s a good baby monitor although it does lack features such as voice activation mode which many people find useful.

UPDATE:  It seems that Motorola/Binatone have listened to their customer complaints and you can now buy the Motorola AV cable directly through Amazon. See above under accessories.

  1. Marina Amante Says:

Im wondering if using 2 cameras in 2 separate rooms, will I be able to hear both babies when they cry or will I be able to only see the baby in he second camera, will it also ave audio?

    Thanks.

  2. admin Says:

My understanding is that the scan between cameras changes every 12 seconds so you can keep an eye on both babies pretty much at the same time. You should have audio for both.
